Surveying Technician Salary

A surveyor is responsible for mapping the technical aspects of an area of land for development. Most surveyors lead a team of 4 to 5 surveying technicians who are responsible for helping with the use of particular surveying equipment. Usually, each technician is responsible for one piece of equipment. They set up, alter, adjust, and align equipment to allow the surveyor to take the measurements they need. In some cases, the surveying technician may also take measurements and provide them to the surveyor for the creation of their maps and statistics.

Most surveying technicians will start off being trained with one particular piece of surveying equipment, but are usually cross-trained in several different types, eventually learning how to use each special piece. Some of the common tools they will learn how to use include;

*Geographic Information Systems
*Global Positions Systems (and reading points)
*Theodolite and measuring rods
*Measuring chains and tapes
