Pharmacist Assistant SalaryA pharmacy assistant, who is known as a pharmacy aide, provides administrative support to the pharmacy employees and clients while under the supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician. Normally a pharmacy assistant will work in a retail drugstore, retail pharmacy, or grocery store and will perform clerk and cashier duties.
A pharmacy assistant takes inventory, answers phones, stocks shelves, and handles transactions. A pharmacy assistant may also maintain the records of patients, prepare claim forms for insurance, take inventory of drugs that are over the counter, and participate in record keeping and maintenance of supplies and equipment.  The majority of pharmacy assistants receive on the job training. In some pharmacies, however, a high school diploma or some college courses may be required. Applicants should have very good customer services skills and communication skills. A pharmacy assistant will generally train under a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
The employment outlook for this field is expected to decline. This is because most pharmacies are expected to begin using pharmacy technicians to take on administrative duties. The average national hourly salary is about $7.7 to $10.23 an hour.
Pharmacist assistants are likely expected to work odd hours, particularly if they work at a pharmacy that is open twenty-four hours. Typically this job does not require courses beyond high school, but certainly additional education is preferred. The job outlook for this career is not great, as pharmacy technicians are taking many of the jobs of pharmacist assistants.
