These techniques are used to search for enemy submarines, deploy radar, plan business ventures, data and computer modeling, mathematical techniques, linear programming, and statistical analysis. Analysts must often find solutions for meeting goals of a project. These solutions are presented to managers, and these managers choose the actions that they think are best. Often operations research analysts must forecast, plan, and be involved in top-level strategizing. They often help design production facilities and systems, coordinate distribution and transportation, analyze large databases, and allocate resources. ``
 Employers want applicants who have at least a master's degree in operations research or a very closely related field, like engineering, business, computer science, mathematics, management science, or information systems along with a bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline, like economics, statistics, mathematics, or computer science. Particularly attractive to employers is a dual degree in computer science and operations research. Operations research analysts have to continue their education in order to keep up to date with technological advances and improvements in analytical methods. It is necessary for an Operations Research Analyst to speak well, work well with others, and think in a logical manner.
The median annual income of operations research analysts was $64,650. The lowest ten percent earned less than $38,760, while the upper 10 percent earned more than $108,290. Analysts working in scientific, management, and technical consulting services earned a median annual income of $69,870, and those working in government earned a median annual income of $91,207.
