Most jobs available in teaching and research are open only to those with a master's degree in mathematics if not a doctoral degree. To obtain a teaching and research position at a university, you will need a doctoral degree in mathematics. To obtain a doctoral degree, you will need four years for a bachelor's degree, two for a master's, and two or three more for a doctoral degree.
