CSR Salary

The CSR, or customer service representative, is a key member of any business team, since they are the ones who deal with a majority of the issues the customers have. They may also be in charge of trouble-shooting issues, handling returns and exchanges, and possibly even selling the merchandise. The majority of customer service representatives work in the troubleshooting departments, handling a number of claims of faulty goods, unsatisfied customers, and dealing with the numerous issues consumers have.

CSRs can work either in person or over the phone, with the majority of businesses opting to now have a majority of their CSRs working over the phone or through the Internet. Working as a CSR can be difficult for some, since you will be dealing with a higher volume of unsatisfied customers more so than satisfied ones.

With most businesses, you will only need a high school diploma and experience using the technology you will primarily be working with (either face to face customer experience, work over the telephone, or work online). Beyond that, there are no real education requirements to become a CSR.

If you are looking to move into a supervisory or management role, then having a bachelor's degree or supervisory experience will help. Business degrees and management degrees tend to work best.

The average CSR salary is based on an hourly rate, usually around $12.00 an hour. The pay range for this position can range from $8 and hour to up to $18 and hour. Most standard CSR positions will not pay more than this.

Being a CSR is a job to some and a career to others. At one point in time or another, we've all had to work with customers, helping solve their issues and ensuring that they will do business with the company again. Generally, the longer you work as CSR, the higher your rate of pay will be, but many companies have a very low salary cap for these positions.
